Colorado’s grape growing industry is rooted in high elevation, intense sunlight, and dramatic diurnal temperature shifts—creating ideal conditions for producing vibrant, expressive wines. With more than 1,000 acres of vineyards planted across the state, Colorado’s growers cultivate a wide range of grape varieties, from cool-climate classics like Riesling and Pinot Noir to bold reds like Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
Most vineyards are located on Colorado’s Western Slope, particularly in the Grand Valley and West Elks American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), where elevations range from 4,000 to 7,000 feet. These unique growing conditions contribute to exceptional fruit quality, marked by natural acidity, balanced ripeness, and distinct regional character.
At CAVE, we support grape growers through education, advocacy, and technical resources, helping advance sustainable practices and ensure the continued growth and excellence of Colorado’s wine industry.
