CAVE Board of Directors Election!

There are four (4) nominees for the three (3) open seats to the Colorado Association for Viticulture & Enology (CAVE) Board of Directors; all three positions are for a 3-year term ending December 31, 2022. You are able to vote for no more than three (3) candidates. Each current CAVE member receives one vote. Ballots with more than three selections or duplicated ballots will be void. All ballots must be received by 5:00pm on December 13th to be counted.

THE NOMINEES

Dave AschwandenChill Switch Wines

Dave has been a winemaker in Colorado since 2006. In 2012, he started his first winery called Crag Crest Cellars and in 2017 he changed the name to Chill Switch Wines. His family is from Switzerland where they have been in the wine business for generations. He has been around wine and the wine industry his whole life.

Dave has served on the CAVE board since 2017. During that time, he has served on the Education and Winefest committees. Living in rural Delta County, he feels that he has a unique perspective to offer the board and membership regarding how issues impact this part of the state. He feels strongly that Delta County has its own challenges with growth of the wine industry, and he is committed to helping with those challenges where possible. Dave can see that Colorado wines are coming into their own and being showcased now. He wants to see the industry continue to grow and improve!

Peter BorupCOVines Wine Education

Peter is a Certified Executive Wine Sommelier, Certified Wine Instructor, and owner of COVines Wine Education which is a small startup based in the Denver metro area. Peter joined the CAVE Board at the beginning of 2019 to serve out the final year of a 3-year term resulting from the early departure of an existing member. Peter views his role as Board member, and current Treasurer, as one of providing oversight and guidance to the operational leadership based on his professional perspective and expertise gained from a broad range of relevant fields. His goal in joining the Board was then, and remains now, to support CAVE’s efforts in promoting the overall quality, growth, and consumer awareness of Colorado wines. Combining 20 years of experience as Director of Education for a Fortune 300 company, an MBA in Organizational Development and Learning, with his professional education and passion for wine, Peter hope to continue serving the CAVE membership for a full term.

Logan SchlutzBoulder Valley Vineyards

Logan is a licensed sommelier by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and the chief sommelier at Boulder Valley Vineyards. Logan received his Masters in International Business Management from the Financial Times #1 Business School (IE Business School) in Madrid, Spain. In Spain, Logan founded a wine export company sourcing wines from the Iberian Peninsula for export to the United States. 

Simone FM SpinnerProfessor of Wine/Wine Rocks & Chasing Grapes

Simone is an international regional manager for Secret Food Tour in North America. She is also an adjunct professor of all things wine at the University of Colorado, Denver. She is a CAVE members and a member of the Climate Reality Project, Denver Boulder Chapter. She is a doctoral researcher developing her dissertation: From Grapes to Wrath: Wine in the Age of Climate Change. She designed her bespoke bachelor’s degree in wine studies and received her master’s degree, exploring wine and aesthetics.

Simone holds 13 wine certifications including the Court of Masters Certified Wine Sommelier, Sherry & Spanish wine, Champagne, and Italian wine specialist certifications; she is expected to complete her WSET diploma in 2020. Simone has a wine consulting and Tour Company called Wine Rocks & Chasing Grapes, LLC. Simone published her first book, Denver Food: A Culinary Evolution in 2018 and will release her second, Lessons from the Lisbon Coast in the near future. She is also working on her memoir Chasing Grapes, about her decades in the wine industry. Simone resides in the foothills just west of Denver, CO with her two Shiba Inu dogs.
