Bonacquisti Wine Co.

Denver artist Daniel Luna provided the art for the labels.

The Bonacquisti Wine Co. was Denver’s first urban winery, opening in 2006 in the Sunnyside neighborhood near I-70 and Pecos Street. The winery sources grapes from Colorado and other regions, and crushes, presses and ferments onsite to produce a variety of award-winning wines created in a rustic Italian style. Winemaker Paul Bonacquisti, an executive sommelier, is a former radio DJ who changed careers to follow a passion of winemaking that had been passed down in his family through the generations.

Bonacquisti produces two primary label series. The premium lineup focuses on single grape wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. The everyday drinking series features blends (both red and white) and propetiery names: [d] Red named after the Delagua, the coal mining camp Paul’s grandfather lived in; and Bella Risa and Vinny No Neck named after Paul’s daughter and son, respectively.¬†All labels feature the art of Denver artist Daniel Luna.

The tasting room features local art in an upstairs gallery and sells Colorado’s first refillable jug wine (similar¬†to growlers sold at virtually every Colorado brewery).

The tasting room is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Tastes are $5 for five wines (refunded with purchase).
