Delta & Montrose Counties

Delta and Montrose counties are located south of the Grand Valley, and feature vineyards and wineries in Olathe (home of the best corn in the West), Cedaredge and the West Elks AVA and other areas. The diversity of the region is apparent in the wines. The high elevations of Cedaredge and parts of Hotchkiss are similar in many ways to the West Elks AVA — although the steep slopes of the West Elks are traded out for flat mesa top vineyards — meaning hybrids, Rieslings and Pinot Noirs are common. The Montrose and Olathe areas are much lower in elevation, and warmer, which allows vineyards to produce varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Lemberger.
